7 TIPS FOR PREVENTING OSTEOARTHRITIS

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis, occurring when cartilage in joints wear down over time usually due to misalignments and dysfunction of the joints. OA most commonly affects joints in the hands, hips, knees and spine. Many OA sufferers turn to over the counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and other drug therapies to fight the pain. Unfortunately, NSAIDs have tons of side effects and prolonged use can have disastrous effects on the gastrointestinal tract and other internal organs.

Chiropractic offers a drug free approach to treating osteoarthritis and living a pain free daily life!

Research has shown chiropractic care can help reduce the symptoms of OA. The study showed those under chiropractic care reported greater and more rapid pain reduction and ROM improvement than the non-chiropractic group. The chiropractic patients also reported more improvement in their activities of daily living (J Manipulative Physiol Ther 2006;29:107-14).

Arthritic Pain is not part of the ageing process and can be avoided with specific chiropractic care and rehab!

1. Maintain Regular Chiropractic Care

When vertebrae (the bones in your spine) are misaligned, the result is a vertebral subluxation. This can cause a chain reaction throughout your body. Receiving chiropractic care cannot only help relieve pain due to OA, but also prevent it from re-occurring or worsening.

2. Manage Your Weight

By losing extra weight, the stress on the knees and other joints is reduced. This can help decrease the risk of Osteoarthritis developing.  Increase your water intake to help the body stay hydrated and also stimulate your metabolism and increase your energy!

3: Consider Supplementation and Increase Antioxidants

Chondroprotective (Cartilage protective) agents help the body repair damage caused by osteoarthritis (Journal of Chiropractic 1900; 27:69). Glycosaminoglycans, like glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate, can help ward off OA. Antioxidants can be obtained in supplement form or from eating foods such as apples, artichokes, beans, blackberries, blueberries, cranberries, raspberries, strawberries, and cherries.

4. Adjust your Diet to Reduce Inflammation

Consuming large amounts of red meat has been linked with degenerative arthritis and soft tissue disorders. Instead of eating red meat, try eating antioxidant-rich foods such as beans, nuts, and other protein sources. For some people Dairy protein has an inflammatory effect on the tissue surrounding your joints. Other causes of inflammation commonly found in our diets are sugar, wheat, and alcohol.

5.  Powerful Anti-inflammatory Foods

Avocado/soybean unsaponifiables is an extract that is made with avocado and soybean oil. This product is noted as a powerful anti-inflammatory agent and also increases the activity of cartilage-producing cells. This can help to promote OA cartilage repair.  Whole fruits, berries and vegetables, are all rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and phytochemicals. Choose green and brightly colored vegetables and whole fruits to help reduce inflammation caused by diet.

6. Exercise

Strengthening exercises performed with weights or exercise bands can help to fortify the muscles that support joints, reducing the likelihood of OA. Adding exercises that promote range-of-motion can help keep joints limber too. Try to exercise for 20-30 minutes 3 times per week, Keep it short and fun!

7. Walk Barefoot!

Walking barefoot can slow the progression of OA in the body. Before banning your shoes, consult your doctor, as diabetics and those with lower-extremity circulation and nerve deficiencies have a heightened risk of injury and infection.

Janesville, WI Chiropractor Discusses Health Benefits of Tea and Coffee

Tea is widely known for its medicinal properties since it first sprouted 3,200 years ago in the Chinese province of Yunnan. The best known teas are green, black, white and oolong. The harvesting and processing of the tea leaf determine how a tea is classified by type. White tea and green tea leaves are steamed to stop oxidization, but they do not undergo fermenting or processing like black and oolong tea.

Coffee had a bad rep for many years with such claims that it will stunt your growth, cause heart disease, and cancer. All of these claims have been proven false and coffee has shown to have many health benefits as long as it is used in moderation due to its high caffeine content.

Pros of Coffee

Coffee boosts antioxidant levels known as polyphenols, these help to keep disease-causing chemicals from damaging cells. Coffee minimizes inflammation and by drinking one to three cups of coffee per day, inflammation may be inhibited, thereby “reducing the risk of cardiovascular and other inflammatory diseases in postmenopausal women” (Am J Clin Nutr2006;83:1039).

Coffee Enhances Your Well-Being

Chlorogenic acids, which are found in coffee, work similar to an antidepressant in the body. Also found in coffee is trigonelline which may have a sedative effect on the brain. Drinking just one cup of coffee a day can decrease the risk of developing alcohol-induced liver cirrhosis by more than 20%. Each additional cup of coffee further decreases the risk by 22%. By drinking coffee, one cup can prevent the aches and pains associated with working out, cut the chances of developing Parkinson’s disease by three-to six-fold, and prevent type 2 diabetes from occurring by increasing glucose tolerance in the body. When compared to non-drinkers, men and women who drank six or more cups of coffee a day decreased their chances of developing type 2 diabetes by 30-60% (Aust Nurs J 2004:11:31).

Tea is a Powerful Antioxidant

Tea contains antioxidants which are powerful molecules that help defend your body against attack from disease. Black tea and green tea have as much as ten times the amount of antioxidants than fruits and vegetables. Green tea has also shown promise in the treatment of breast cancer. It contains the antioxidant EGCG, which has been shown in research studies to help slow the progression of cancer cell growth. Green tea may also help prevent; bladder, lung, stomach and colon cancer. This powerful tea may also help reduce the incidence of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

Herbal Teas

If you are looking to avoid caffeine, herbal teas are a great alternative. They usually contain a mixture of herbs, flowers, roots and similar ingredients. Most herbal teas do not actually contain tea, while containing healthful properties, most are not as high in antioxidants as a genuine tea.

Maximizing the benefits?

Health experts say you should brew tea for two to five minutes to ensure you get a good helping of antioxidants. You may want to steep fermented teas, like black and oolong, for five minutes, as these teas take longer to release their antioxidant compounds. Be cautious when adding milk or cream to your tea as they dampen its health benefits, so best to drink it clear!

Janesville Chiropractor Discusses How Chiropractic Can Help With Pregnancy Pains

pregnancy Badgerland ChiropracticJanesville Chiropractor Discusses How Chiropractic Can Help With Pregnancy Pains

Your pregnancy should be one of the happiest and most rewarding experiences of your life. Your experience can be diminished if the physical changes taking place in your body results in severe low back pain. At Badgerland Chiropractic our goal for all expectant mothers is to help them have a happy and pain free 9 months and we accomplish this with non-invasive chiropractic treatments and rehab exercises and without harmful medications.

Potential benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy include:

  • Maintaining a healthier pregnancy
  • Controlling symptoms of nausea
  • Reducing the time of labor and delivery
  • Relieving back, neck or joint pain
  • Prevent a potential cesarean delivery

Pain Medications Can Be Problematic During Pregnancy

Medical doctors may advise expectant mothers that there is no downside to using over the counter pain meds such as aspirin, ibuprofen and acetaminophen. However, new research shows a clear connection between prenatal use of over-the-counter pain relievers and impaired fetal development. Additionally, the mother is exposed to the usual dangers posed by these drugs, such as damage to the liver and kidneys.

Chiropractic Is the Natural Alternative to Pain Meds

Doctors of chiropractic are spine specialists. Chiropractors remove nervous system interference that occurs when the spinal bones become misaligned which causes you to feel pain symptoms. These vertebral misalignments or subluxations can easily be detected and removed by means of a chiropractic adjustment that realigns the spine so it can function to its full potential. Chiropractic eliminates the cause of pain, making the use of dangerous pain medications unnecessary. At Badgerland Chiropractic we have state of the art chiropractic tables with breakaway sections to comfortably accomadate the growing pregnancy. We also offer flexion-distraction therapy to relieve the added stress put on the lumbar disc during pregnancy and soft tissue therapy to relieve muscle pain from the postural hanges that occur during pregnancy.

Each Trimester Increases Maternity Back Pain

During the first trimester of your pregnancy, some muscle tension may be felt along the midback down to the buttock. However, it is during the second and third trimesters that the greatest stress will be placed on your spine. As the baby grows, you will gain 25 to 35 pounds, which puts pressure on the pelvis and the low back and can add up to excruciating back pain!

As a mother-to-be, you face unique challenges during the third trimester as your body prepares for the miracle of childbirth:

  • The baby’s head may put pressure on the sciatic nerve. Although the pain begins in the lower back, it will radiate down one or both legs, making it difficult to maintain good posture.

  • An increase in the hormone relaxin is meant to ease delivery by relaxing the pelvic joints, but the spine’s joints are also affected. This results in back pain.

  • In anticipation of breastfeeding, the breasts enlarge and grow heavier. This may lead to a stooped posture and forward head lean resulting in headaches, as well as upper back and neck pain.

Self-Care to Relieve Back Pain During Pregnancy

Here are some tips to prevent back pain:

  • Wear comfortable shoes that provide good arch support
  • Maintain muscle tone by engaging in low-impact exercise, such as swimming and walking
  • Sit in chairs that support your back
  • Sleep on your side and place a pillow between your knees
  • Treat yourself and your baby to regular chiropractic care

Have a More Comfortable Childbirth

The dreaded pain of delivery can be eased by regular chiropractic care during pregnancy. Vertebral and pelvic misalignments are corrected before they have a chance to cause pain. In 1991, the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics published a retrospective study of 170 women, which found that chiropractic adjustments reduced the intensity of lower back pain typically felt during labor and allowed the study’s participants to enjoy a more pleasant birth experience.

Protect Yourself This Winter From Low Back Pain!

The primary reason patients come to our clinic is because they are in pain and this pain has affected their daily lives, whether it is at work or at home to the point where they are unable to perform daily tasks pain free.  Our number one goal when we set up a care plan for a patient is to get that patient out of pain as soon as possible, so they can perform those activities in their daily lives that they have been unable to do because of the pain.

Chiropractic is a safe and proven form of therapy for low back pain and can also reduce reoccurring injuries. It focuses on correcting a dysfunctional area in the spine called vertebral subluxations. Chiropractic has been proven to diminish pain, reduce recovery time and cut down the need for medication and physical therapy. Many patients who suffer from back pain reach for over the counter medications or seek out prescription drugs. Studies have found that pain medication not only can cause a variety of undesired side effects, but are minimally effective in treating back pain and only cover up the symptoms without treating the cause.

Recent studies released by The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) confirms that despite the severity of back pain, there is hope for full recovery by means of getting treatment from a chiropractor versus going through invasive back surgery. The study focused on workers suffering from back injuries and released data on just how unnecessary back surgery may be.

When back pain patients saw a back surgeon first, they were 42.7% more likely to go through with invasive back surgery as a means of treatment, Compared to only 1.5% of patients who saw a chiropractor first.

Chiropractic works, and it works without invasive surgeries or habit forming pain medications. According to this study, more than 98% of patients who saw a chiropractor experienced a significant reduction or elimination of their back pain, and had no need to see a back surgeon.

Chiropractic has helped millions of Americans avoid back surgery through non-invasive treatment methods and at Badgerland Chiropractic we utilize safe and effective techniques such as Flexion-Distraction and Sacro-Occipital technique for our patients with acute low back injuries and disc herniations along with chiropractic adjustments to help maintain alignment in the spine so the soft tissues and ligaments can begin to heal.

In addition to the benefits already described, chiropractic care for back pain is a wallet friendly option. When considering the shorter disability time that chiropractic adjustments afford, the cost of lost time and wages make chiropractic even more attractive for the budget minded patient. Check out our New Patient Special!

Interesting Facts About Low Back Pain:

  1. Low back pain is the single leading cause of disability worldwide.
  2. 50% of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year.
  3. Americans spend over 50 Billion per year on back pain.
  4. Back pain is one of the most common reasons for missed work and is the second most common reason to visit a health care provider.
  5. Most back pain cases are mechanical which means they are not caused by serious conditions, such as inflammatory arthritis, infection, fracture or cancers.
  6. Experts estimate that 80% of the population will experience back pain at some time in their lives.

Janesville Chiropractor Explains Why Kids Need Chiropractic Care

Badgerland Chiropractic Kids Chiropractic Janesville Chiropractor Explains Why Kids Need Chiropractic Care

Kids Need Chiropractic Care, Too!

Chiropractors like Dr. Ryan Dunphy are seeing growing interest in chiropractic care for children. Studies show that getting adjusted helps with lots of childhood ailments, and costs less than traditional medical care and is less invasive.

Safe and Gentle Treatments

Dr. Ryan uses safe and gentle techniques to adjust children. These techniques are modified for even the smallest of patients from newborns on up! Children typically have a hard time explaining aches and pains and at Badgerland Chiropractic we do a thorough examination to find out if the cause of your childs problems are from misalignments of the spine.

Ease Your Child’s Aches and Pains

Spinal problems can begin at birth. The birthing process itself wreaks havoc on the spine. Wobbly walkers tend to tumble. Older children get out of alignment through sports activities, poor posture, and through everyday activities. Researchers estimate that 50% of children suffer from low-back pain. Luckily, chiropractic adjustments can ease their pain. Chiropractic care helps with neck pain and childhood headaches, too.

Naturally Treat ADHD

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) prevents children from maintaining their focus in every aspect of their lives. Preliminary research shows that chiropractic care has a “highly significant” influence on improving the symptoms of ADHD.

Stop Chronic Ear Infections

Many young children suffer from chronic ear infections. One study of 46 children ages 5 and under showed that 93% of the ear infection episodes improved by 75% in 10 days or less. 43% improved after only 1 or 2 adjustments. (J Manipulative Physiol Ther 1996;19:169-77)

End Stomach Aches and Constipation

Misalignments putting pressure on nerve roots can be a cause of digestive issues such as chronic constipation and upset stomach. Getting adjusted can get your child’s digestive system back on track!

Sports-Injury Solution

Older children are often involved in sports or other physical activities. Chiropractic care not only helps heal the body faster after injury, but can also help prevent potential sports-related strains and sprains due to misalignments and muscle dysfunction.

Set a Good Example

Teaching your child to turn to medication only when absolutely necessary can help them to avoid potentially harmful side-effects and discover the incredible healing power of the body. Emphasize prevention rather than dependency on medication. Teach your children how to be healthy!

Do you leave your kids at home while you visit the chiropractor? Why not bring them along and get the whole family feeling great and healthy?!

Janesville Chiropractor Explains Causes and Natural Ways to Prevent Headaches and Migraines

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

Headaches-migraine-relief-chiropractic-care-natural-relief-careJanesville Chiropractor Explains Causes and Natural Ways to Prevent Headaches and Migraines

So often we have new patients that tell us they are suffering from daily headaches or weekly migraines that they have become used to dealing with as part of their lives. Headaches and Migraines are not normal and can be treated naturally and effectively once we find the CAUSE of your Headaches or Migraines. Headaches and Migraines can prevent you from living your daily life pain and stress free and can even become debilitating.

At Badgerland Chiropractic we provide you with DRUG FREE Approaches to Preventing Headaches!

You can feel better without taking possibly hazardous medications!

-Tylenol and other over the counter Pain Medications containing ACETOMENOPHIN are the #1 cause of Acute Liver FAILURE in the US.

Chiropractic Adjustments Proven Effective Treating Headaches and Migraines

Headaches are frequently caused by tension on cervical nerve roots and prolonged tension of the neck muscles.

Much of the pain associated with headaches doesn’t come from the head, but from the cervical spine. Headaches are often a sign of a misaligned spine. When this disorder affects the spine of the neck, it can cause chronic pain and limited mobility. Headaches are commonly a symptom from stress in the muscles of the neck due to poor posture and misalignments of the spine. Research has shown that chiropractic adjustments reduce neck pain and headaches and that chiropractic care is as effective as prescription medication for tension headaches and migraines.

At Badgerland Chiropractic we use STATE OF THE ART Digital X-rays to analyze your cervical spine and find out if the cause of your problem can be helped with specific CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS.

Check Your Posture

Many people who suffer from headaches have a reduction, absence, or reversal of their normal cervical spinal curves. Adjustments and Cervical Traction therapy can help improve this curve. There are also things you can do on your own as well, like at home exercises and neck stretches.

Skip the Medications

Overusing headache medications can actually cause more headaches. These are called Medication Overuse Headaches (MOH). Research shows that both prescription and over-the-counter pain medication may instigate headaches, which actually cause you more pain. Getting adjusted regularly can prevent headaches and ease the use of pain medication.

Look Out for Drug Side Effects and Interactions

Many medications list headaches as a possible side effect, including birth control, hormone replacement therapies, antidepressants, cold medicine, decongestants, allergy medicine, heart medication, and drugs for high blood pressure.

Overuse of certain vitamins and dietary supplements may even cause headaches, such as iron, and vitamins A and D. On the other hand, some may avert headaches, such as magnesium and B-complex vitamins.

If you think a medication may be causing you headaches, seek natural alternatives such as diet and exercise. However, do not discontinue the use of a medication without checking with the prescribing doctor.

Skip the Soda and Coffee

Although caffeine may help the symptoms of headache for some people, it can also cause drug rebound tension headaches and lead to migraines. Caffeine can essentially become a temporary fix for a chronic problem and at Badgerland Chiropractic we will help you find the SPECIFIC CAUSE of your headaches and migraines.

Prevent Eye Strain

Vision problems can cause headaches. Eye strain from the computer can lead to head and neck pain as well. Looking at a computer all day and working at a desk can lead to Anterior Head Carriage which can cause severe stress on your upper back and neck paraspinal muscles, which can often lead to tension type headaches.

Research shows that employees who spend at least 11 hours per week working on the computer were 50% more likely to suffer from weekly headaches, compared to those who did not use the computers. (Am J Epidemiol 1999;150:1223-8)

Daily Exercise and Physical Activity

Daily aerobic activity can prevent headaches. Exercise can even keep depression under control, which can reduce the number of headaches you get. According to research regular exercise is just as, and possibly more, effective than antidepressant medication for emotional depression (Psychoso Med 2000;62).

Proper Sleep Habits

If you suffer from headaches, make sure you get at least 7 hours of sleep each night. Also, try to maintain a sleep schedule, where you go to sleep and wake up around the same time every day. Sleep deprivation and an inconsistent sleep schedule can increase headaches.

If you get headaches mainly in the morning, you may want to be tested for sleep apnea. Snoring is also linked with chronic headaches (Neurology 2003;60;1369-71).

Manage You Daily Stress

Holding in anger can be a major stressor, and a cause of headaches. Try to control your stress through yoga, exercise, meditation or prayer.

Five minutes of deep breathing twice a day can significantly help you manage your daily stress levels and if “you don’t have time”, then you are under too much stress and need to make time and you will experience peace of mind and increased productivity!

Clean Up Your Diet

Some foods can trigger headaches and migraines. Try to avoid Dairy, Sugars, and Processed Carbohydrates. If you’re sensitive to gluten, try to avoid wheat. Avoid packaged and processed foods and preservatives. Sugar substitutes such as aspartame have also been linked to headaches and are commonly found in diet soda.

At Badgerland Chiropractic we promote a Paleo Diet and Anti-inflammatory Diet and Dr. Ryan will help answer any questions you have about these diets and how they can help change your life!

poor posture Badgerland Chiropractic Janesville, WIJanesville Chiropractor Discusses Perfect Posture

Perfect Posture Prevents Pain!

Your posture is an indication of your spine and joint health. Posture is a physiological reflection of what is going on inside of you. Imbalanced/poor posture can often lead to painful conditions and diseases.

Vertebral Subluxations

Poor posture is a primary cause of vertebral subluxations (misalignments of the spine). Vertebral subluxations cause numerous health problems, such as carpal tunnel, headaches, backaches, colic in infants, and ear infections in children. Vertebral subluxations can be corrected by specific chiropractic adjustments to the area of misalignment. Poor Posture can also damage soft tissue and cause added wear-and-tear on your joints which leads to degeneration and disc disease. Good posture, on the other hand, can strengthen the skeletal system. The damage caused by poor posture can also cause pain in other parts of your body, such as your shoulders, hips and knees.

Common Postural Problems

“Military Neck” occurs when the bones in your neck are too straight. It causes a loss in your range of motion, and can result in “forward head posture” where your neck slants forward. At Badgerland Chiropractic we utilize Chiropractic Biophysic Traction Techniques to help restore your cervical cure and help you start living a healthy and pain free life!

“Humpback” occurs when the curvature of your spine is abnormal. Exaggerations of normal thoracic (chest) curvature can put you at an “increased risk of chronic respiratory failure.” (Chest 1991;99:663). Even slight curves or humpbacks can wreak havoc on the spine and your overall health.

“Swayback” (or lordosis) is an abnormal forward curvature of the spine that creates a “shelf” appearance over the buttocks. It is associated with poor posture, osteoarthritis, neuromuscular problems, back surgery & hip disorders.

“Flatback” Syndrome is often congenital and is associated with adult degenerative scoliosis. It can also be caused by surgical fusion of the spine. With flatback syndrome, vertebral discs in the lower spine are pushed outward. This reduces the natural curve of the back and makes it appear flat.

Sitting Pretty

Reading with your head jutting forward strains your upper back, shoulders and neck. Over time, this leads to a straightening of your spine’s natural curve. This can significantly increase your head and neck pain and cause headaches due to strain. Instead, keep your head aligned with your shoulders and keep the middle of your back fairly straight. Also, keep your feet flat on the floor and choose a chair that supports your back. Take stretch breaks and drink plenty of water. Also, flexing your abdominals while sitting can help take stress off of your low back muscles.

Smart Standing

For good posture, stand with your weight evenly distributed but don’t lock your knees. If you’re standing for an extended period of time, make sure to rest often, and stand on a mat if possible. Be aware of how you are distributing your weight evenly to both legs, if it seems you have a tendency to put more weight on one leg or the other this can be a sign of a pelvic/low back misalignment.

Walking Well

While you are walking, start out straight and tall. Leaning forward or arching your back strains your muscles and spine. Too long of a stride can cause your body to lean back and put strain on your lumbar region.

Weight Matters

Overweight patients are at a disadvantage when it comes to posture. Excess weight pulls you forward and misaligns your spine, compromising vertebrae in your lower back. Healthy Diet and Exercise can also significantly help with your posture and chronic pain related to poor posture.

Posture Examination

At Badgerland Chiropractic Dr. Ryan performs a thorough chiropractic exam that includes a postural analysis and X-rays to show his patients how their posture is affecting their lives and how we can help!

Janesville Chiropractor Lists Top 10 Ways Chiropractic Care Can Improve Your Life

Chiropractic Improves Life Badgerland Chiropractic

Janesville Chiropractor Lists Top 10 Ways Chiropractic Care Can Improve Your Life

10. Chiropractic Care Helps With Pain Relief

One of the primary reasons people seek chiropractic care is because it makes them feel better! Instead of covering up the symptoms of pain with costly and side effect ridden pain medication, chiropractic care gets to the CAUSE of the problem which is often vertebral subluxations (misalignment of the spine). Adjustments to the spine can alleviate pain, headaches, sciatica, pregnancy related back pain, colic in babies, and helps you sleep better. Once we help get you out of pain, we will set you up with a specific chiropractic care plan to keep you out of pain and on the pathway to health!

9. Chiropractic Care Can Prevent Other Conditions & Symptoms

Pain relief isn’t the only benefit of chiropractic care. More and more research shows that it can also help with a number of conditions, such as colic infants, ear infections in children, behavioral problems such ADD/ADHD, PMS, High Blood Pressure and Fibromyalgia. When your spine is misaligned, your nervous system cannot perform properly, which leads to a multitude of health problems and dysfunction of tissues and organs.

8. Chiropractic Care Improves Your DAILY LIFE

Chiropractic adjustments can improve your daily life both at work and at home. Many people for example experience low back pain from extended sitting, and repetitive bending or lifting at work. They can also develop carpal tunnel syndrome from typing all day. These kinds of issues can lead to extended absences from work or the inability to perform your job all-together. Studies show that employees who receive spinal manipulations (adjustments) return to work faster, have lower therapeutic costs, and feel less pain in their daily lives. Chiropractic care also boosts productivity at home and at the gym. Many professional athletes such as Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady rely on chiropractic care to maintain peek physical condition.

7. Chiropractic Care May Make You Smarter

Measuring brain activity before and after chiropractic adjustments of the spine and neck show that adjustments stimulate cognitive function. Adjustments also enhance response mechanisms in the brain. Studies have shown that Olympic athletes under chiropractic care have faster reaction times!

6. Chiropractic Care Boosts Your Immune System

Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care has been shown to be an amazing natural way to prevent illness by boosting the body’s immune system. Chiropractic adjustments boost levels of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) and monocytes – the white blood cells that are associated with a healthy immune system (J Manipulative Physiol Ther 1991;7:399-408). Stay one step ahead of the Flu this winter with a chiropractic adjustment at Badgerland Chiropractic!

5. Chiropractic Care Reduces Stress

Chiropractic care can reduce stress by allowing your body to achieve balance (Homeostasis). It allows you to maintain a healthy and active exercise routine, which is a great way to release stress and prevent stress-related anxiety and depression. While chiropractic care cannot treat depression, it may ease depressive symptoms. Researchers note, “It has long been speculated that chiropractic interventions may affect mental health problems.” Healthy, Pain Free People are Happy People!

4. Chiropractic Care Increases Physical Activity

Many new patients find out that chiropractic care is the first step towards a healthier lifestyle. It can increase your motivation to stay active and stick to a regular exercise routine. People that are able to exercise pain free are able to exercise longer and more often. Chiropractic care is one of the ways that can help you become healthier and more active this New Year!

3. Chiropractic Care Reduces the Need for Unnecessary Medication

People who maintain regular chiropractic care are far less likely to overuse or misuse costly medication that can have negative side effects. Even every day, over-the-counter medications can be hard on your gastrointestinal system. Also, long-term use of pain medications can actually exacerbate the symptoms you were trying to fix in the first place! People who focus on prevention and utilize chiropractic adjustments are less likely to develop medication overuse headaches (MOH). Remember you are not in pain due to an ASPIRIN OR IBUPROFEN DEFICIENCY, chiropractors find the CAUSE of your PAIN.

2. Chiropractic Care Improves Sleep & Energy

Many chiropractic patients notice improved quality of sleep and increased energy levels. This occurs because they are feeling less pain and anxiety, which often inhibit proper sleep patterns. Being able to sleep better enhances immunity as well, so you’re better rested and able to fight disease and illness. Research has shown SPINAL SUBLUXATIONs (misalignments of the spine) are also linked to insomnia, so aligning the spine means better sleep and a happier you!

1.    Chiropractic Care Improves Health & Wellness

Regular chiropractic care empowers patients with what chiropractors like to call “health-esteem.” Dr Ryan educates his patients on how to take charge of their own personal health and wellness. Being healthy increases your longevity and increases your quality of life. At Badgerland Chiropractic we strive to improve all of our patient’s lives so they can live healthy and pain free!

Janesville Chiropractor Explains Ways to Avoid Developing Spinal Arthritis and Degeneration

Friday, December 13th, 2013

Time Magazine Inflammation Badgerland Chiropractic Janesville, WIJanesville Chiropractor Explains Ways to Avoid Developing Spinal Arthritis and Degeneration

Every day we hear patients talk about arthritis but they have no idea what arthritis actually is and how it occurs. Arthritis simply means inflammation of a joint. If the inflammation does not dissipate, the white blood cells that inflammation brings into an injured area will start eating away the joints like a slow burning painful fire. This can create degenerative joint disease which is also called osteoarthritis and degenerative disc disease. Acute inflammation is a good thing it protects the injured or infected area and allows the area to heal we see this in sprained ankles and when we get a scratch or cut for example. However, if an injured area is repetitively being injured from issues such as poor posture, the inflammation will never subside and the inflammation will start to cause more harm than good.

This is important for your spine because if an area of your spine is out of alignment and damaging the facet capsules, spinal joints, and discs. Over time the chronic inflammation that is caused by the misalignment will cause facet, disc and joint degeneration also called spinal arthritis. We are taught to believe that disc and joint degeneration in the spine are from aging but we are now seeing young people with severe osteoarthritis and seventy year old patients with very little osteoarthritic changes. There is some wear and tear associated with aging but if you keep your spine in alignment with chiropractic care, eat a diet that reduces inflammation and stretch and exercise your back and neck maintaining pliable muscles and joints. You will slow down the aging process, developing minimal arthritis and your body will feel good and be functional into your 80′s and 90′s.

At Badgerland Chiropractic Dr. Ryan uses a thorough chiropractic exam and Digital X-rays of your spine to diagnose and assess your spine for subluxations and degenerative changes. Call 608-754-0148 Today to schedule your appointment and get checked!

Badgerland Chiropractic Happy BabyJanesville Chiropractic Office Offers Gentle Chiropractic Care

Many patients who come to our office are scared of the audible or “cracking noises” associated with many chiropractic adjustments from gas being released from the joints. However, we explain to them that we are trained in several gentle chiropractic techniques such as Flexion-Distraction, Activator, Toggle, Cervical Traction, and Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT). These techniques don’t twist the spine and create no noise with the adjustment.

When a new patient comes to our office we analyze both the examination and digital x-ray findings and explain to the patient what chiropractic technique those findings indicate would be the best for their specific spinal condition they have. However, we want all our patients to be 100% comfortable with the adjustments they receive at our clinic, so we always ask if they would prefer gentle or traditional chiropractic care and even ask what they liked and disliked about their previous chiropractic experiences if they have been before. All of this information allows us at Badgerland Chiropractic to set up a specific chiropractic care plan that allows us to help you on your pathway to health and leaves you 100% satisfied with your treatment.

We have helped patients with headaches, neck pain, back pain, sciatica, arthritis symptoms, allergies and sinus & ear infections all using gentle chiropractic care with the same great results as traditional chiropractic. Gentle Chiropractic Techniques are also great during Pregnancy and for Children. If you are not comfortable with the twisting and cracking noises that happen with traditional chiropractic care give us a call today and schedule an appointment 608-754-0148.
